Sam Allardyce has today been officially named as the new England manager.

The experienced 61-year-old will succeed Roy Hodgson in managing the national team after Hodgson departed earlier this year due to a disastrous Euro 2016 tournament.

The news that Allardyce is the new coach comes as little surprise after weeks of speculation but the news will no doubt delight many.

Big Sam as he is affectionately known has made little secret of the fact he was desperate to manage his country and now he has the chance to lead them to glory.

Sam will be looking to inspire the national side to their first World Cup win since 1966 when he takes charge at the 2018 tournament.

After the news broke, Sam Allardyce released a press release speaking of his “honour” at being named the new England boss;

“I am extremely honoured to be appointed England manager especially as it is no secret that this is the role I have always wanted. For me, it is absolutely the best job in English football. I will do everything I can to help England do well and give our nation the success our fans deserve,”

Allardyce also promised he would do everything in his power to make the country proud once again;

Above all, we have to make the people and the whole country proud, while my main focus will be on the senior team and getting positive results, I want to add my influence to the great work being done across the development teams at St. George’s Park – a facility I have used with my previous clubs.

“I know we have talented, committed players and it is time for us to deliver.”

Allardyce’s first match in charge of England will be a World Cup qualifier away to Slovakia on September 4th.
